January 2011 Newsletter
Next Meeting - AGM on 26th January at 7.30pm
This will be an informal affair to review 2010 and look ahead to 2011.
This will be followed by a slide show of our garden visits last year and perhaps a discussion of gardens that you would like to visit this year. Sue has some private gardens in mind that you won't have visited and the chance to re-visit one lovely garden that some of you missed. There is also the possibility of a 'behind the scenes' tour of the Dingle Nursery.
A full programme of speakers has been arranged for this year and the programme cards will be available to members on payment of their subs which will remain at £8 each. There is no fee for meetings so remains very good value.

Jobs for January

There's not too much to be done out in the garden this time of year, and little can be done when the ground is so hard.
One thing not to forget though is that you can force your rhubarb in to early growth by covering the crown with a box or bin. Alternatively if not 'forcing', mulch rhubarb with well-rotted manure.
Given it's so cold outside, it a nice time of year to sit in the warm by the fire and plan out what you want to grow next year. If you are growing potatoes have a browse through the Shropshire Organic Website and see what potatoes you want to grow next year. You can then pop along to Nescliffe Village Hall on the Saturday 5th February and buy some.
If you haven't already, now's the time to be sowing Allium, Charm Chrysanthemums & Gardenia and once you've done that don't forget to sow Buddleia, Canna, Cyclamen, Geranium, Lupins, Mistletoe, Onions, Pelargoniums & Streptocarpus. If you're planning to take some Montana cuttings, now's the time.
