Sally Roberts has kindly offered the chance to see her vast collection of snowdrops at her home Efailwag, SY10 0AH.  Take the road from Penybontfawr to Oswestry direction and just beyond Peddairfordd, Efaiwag is the first farm on the left. We have visited before and they are a delight but many of you may not have.  Meet at Sally’s on 16th Feb at 2pm.  Please let me know that you intend to come and Sally says that you must excuse the state of her garden!!!.

Please support Paul and the new allotments by coming along.

How to Start and Maintain the Growing of Organic Food - Friday 25th February

Picture
Paul Stocking and the new Llanrhaeadr Allotments association are putting on a talk on Friday, 25th February at the New School Hall at 7.30pm when the speaker will be John Gale to talk about how to start and maintain the growing of organic food.  You don’t need to have an allotment to come along.  The evening is free, with refreshments although donations will be gratefully received to help with costs.  Some of you may remember that John came to talk to us in 2006 with a most enlightening talk.  He is not a run of the mill speaker on organic gardening and if you are at all inspired by Mary and Emlyn’s talk to grow your own food, at home or in an allotment, then let John inspire and educate you as to how it is possible without using chemicals.

An 8 page talk handout is available on request by email from Sue.

Bring some soil on the 23rd Jan

Picture
The soil pH kits will be available once again.  Bring a sample dug from 4 to 6 inches down, ie. at the root level and let it dry naturally for a few days.  Sieve all the stones from it and you only need half a thimble full!

No charge to members as our mini plant sales at the meetings have funded this
.

Vice Chairman

At the AGM Sarah Chambers was elected as Vice Chairman.  Richard Biggs was thanked for his dedication to the role in the past.  Sarah had news of our new website. Check it out at www.llanrhaeadrgardeningclub.com

Summer Garden Visits Schedule

Sue is busy arranging the summer garden visits schedule and have most local gardens sorted, although the dates are trickier to work out.  Sue may have all the dates and locations ready for the next meeting.  She would would love to hear suggestions for a more substantial visit for a day out in July.  Maybe a two garden visit followed by a meal as we did last year.
