We enjoyed an extremely informative and interesting talk from Claire Backshall, a volunteer ambassador to talk about why our garden bird watching is important and even more so if we record and inform the BTO (British Trust for Ornithology).   https://www.bto.org/volunteer-surveys/gbw

We had a fabulous programme last year with speakers from Keele University, Yorkshire, Shropshire and Cheshire. Check this year's programme for more excellent talks.

Pictured below, members, Chris and Victoria Emmett who rode over to our summer social event last July.  Chris was diagnosed with colon cancer and is now recovering from the operation to remove the offending bit. Previously healthy, this was not in his life plan so getting fit again was the way forward. Lots of cycling along the valleys and up the hills round here have been followed by various charity rides, such as Oswestry to Bala for Hope House and the Tour de France. Now to support the charity Beating Bowel Cancer/Bowel Cancer UK he is aiming to cycle the Prudential Ride London Surrey 100 mile sportive on the last Saturday in July. This starts at the Olympic Park and finishes about seven hours later (or less) on the Mall outside Buckingham Palace. Our garden club wish him the best of luck. We have already raised some funds for Chris with a snowdrop day held at their home near Llanrhaeadr and will be doing more with a tea party in their garden in August. If you wish to donate, contact me via the 'contact us' page.

Welcome

Welcome, we hope this website is useful and informative for you, whether you are an experienced gardener or just about to embark on your very first garden project.

The website provides details of all the clubs activities, as well as a comprehensive library which members can borrow books from and gardening tips.  It is regularly updated to bring you news of upcoming garden-related local events.

Occasionally we post items of interest in the blog page.

If you would like to have your local event listed, or have any interesting links, feedback or suggestions on how to improve the site, then please get in touch using this link.

Happy Gardening!

Our last speaker of 2017 was botanist, Dr. Michael Jones. His passion is for parasitic plants and as Christmas approaches his splendid talk was all about mistletoe, the facts, myths and mysteries. We certainly learned a lot.
For those of you who missed the talk you might like to see an article from the December 2012 edition of the RHS Garden magazine about mistletoe.

OR follow this link to a fascinating website all about mistletoe

Here's our speaker for June 2016, Razvan, relaxing at Chelsea after helping at one of the displays and the picture below is him on the night. If you are a speaker secretary, google him and book him.
We are very pleased that he's coming back to speak in 2018. Keep checking the website for the programme update just after Christmas.
